The in-car lessons
can begin at the start of class.
If you qualify you can obtain your permit at the start of class and you can start driving with the instructor as
soon as you have secured your permit. This allows you to
start your driving and begin the six month waiting period required by the Graduated Drivers License law (GDL).
Permit tests can
be taken at the driving school if you have reached at least
15-4 and have
registered for class and in-car lessons. If you want to take your test on or before the
start date of your class you can obtain a copy of the Motorist's
Handbook from the DMV Service Center or by downloading it from www.dot.wisconsin.gov
We administer the tests at the end of each class session. Whether or
not you take the tests at the school after you have met the requirements and received the authorization
to get your permit you can go to any Motor Vehicle Department Service Center and obtain
your permit
You do not need an
appointment to get a permit,
however, if you are going to take the tests at the DMV you should plan on arriving at the
station at least an hour before they close
to insure that you can finish all of the requirements before closing.
